future dining experience program

A COLLABORATION BETWEEN SFUSD AND ATELIER CHO THOMPSON

SOFTWARE: ILLUSTRATOR, AUTOCAD

MISSION:

San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) partnered with Revolution Foods in January 2013 to implement a dining program that serves fresher meals and provides students with healthier food options. After much success, SFUSD partnered with Atelier Cho Thompson to further this mission of improved dining conditions by redesigning its school cafeteria spaces. Future Dining Experience serves to create healthier spaces that foster community-building, inclusivity, self-identity, nutrition, and participation among students.

I worked for Atelier Cho Thompson in two schools, Frank McCoppin Elementary School and June Jordan High School. Read more about Future Dining Experience and ACT’s collaboration on the project.

SOCIAL IMPACT:

(1) Encourages healthy eating habits among students

(2) Promote school community and pride

(3) Create inclusive spaces to celebrate diversity

(4) Teach students about other academic topics like animals, languages, geography, nutrition, and science

(5) Provide students with a space to self-express and participate

(slated to be completed summer 2019)

McCoppin Elementary School values kindness and cooperation as a key factor in creating community. The butterfly and dragon were the first two design options that the students voted for. The butterfly was later dropped and the dragon (school mascot), against a San Francisco backdrop, became the main feature.

(project still in process)

June Jordan High School was founded on the principles of social equity and justice. The school voted on a cafeteria redesign that will incorporate these values as well as a tropical theme that integrates fern leaves from the local California Redwood Tree.
